Data and Information Governance team at UC (GOB D+I UC) is responsible for establishing data governance policies, processes, standards and guidelines to ensure that the maximum value is extracted from institutional data and information. A data governance program will be established to improve UC’s ability to create, preserve, and disseminate institutional knowledge.
Institutional information is a strategic asset of the University, and therefore, it must be protected, maintained and leveraged to support effective management decisions. Institutional data should be accessible, correctly represent the information intended, should be easily integrated into the University's information systems; and should be readily available to support evidence-based decision-making and informed action.
Data and Information Governance at UC consists of the orchestration of people, processes and technology, that supports the leverage of institutional information as a strategic asset for the organization.

Job description

GOB D+I UC is looking for a Software Engineer full stack.

GOB D+I UC is creating a platform where people can access visualizations used for decision making for the entire university. To achieve this, there are a few important steps : understanding the meaningful information for the different actors, standardization of data across the university to be able to answer questions, adapt the content for all the positions and users for the whole university, etc. You can check the websites gobiernodedatoseinformacion.uc.cl and decisiones.uc.cl for more details.

As a full-stack developer at GOB D+I UC, you will be asked to work on each step of this project, from development to production.

You will work backend and frontend mainly ruby on rails and some python with postgres, and react redux on the front end side.

You will :

  • Work across the stack to build new features from start to finish, including unit and end-to-end tests.
  • Own meaningful parts of our product, have an impact, grow with the team.
  • Always focused on the end user, what you build needs to make sense to people who use it.
  • Help others: review code, spread your knowledge and technical expertise, improve our processes.

Preferred experience

  • You have significant experience in one or more programming languages (Ruby on rails, javascript)
  • You value code simplicity, readability, and maintainability.
  • You care about user experience.
  • You have 2 or more years of experience at least in one of the languages we use in our stack (Ruby on Rails, React, Redux)
  • You understand English and can communicate fluently in both English and Spanish.
  • You have experience in Gitlab.
  • You have experience in elastic beanstalk ( AWS).

Bonus points

  • You’ve worked on a large application using React, Angular, Backbone, or Redux and Ruby on Rails or python.
  • You are familiar with AWS.
  • You have some background in managing and organizing large quantities of data.
