About Blazestack
Blazestack is building the next generation of public-safety software for fire investigators, inspectors, and marshals. Our platform replaces outdated, clunky tools with AI-powered, NFPA-compliant workflows that make casework, reporting, and inspection scheduling faster, clearer, and more defensible. We serve mission-critical professionals who can’t afford software that is confusing, brittle, or unsupported — which is why we design with both technical rigor and human empathy.

What You’ll Do

About the Role
We’re hiring a Design Engineer who can bridge the gap between UX design and engineering execution with a distinct enterprise SaaS design taste (eg Monday.com, Slack, AirTable).

You’ll be responsible for taking raw workflows (e.g., complex inspection scheduling, O&C report generation, compliance logging) and turning them into clear, elegant, and implementable designs. This isn’t a role for a “pixel-pusher” or an isolated designer — it’s for someone who thrives in the messy middle between design and development, and who wants to make a real impact in public safety.

  • Translate investigator/inspector workflows into wireframes, prototypes, and functional specifications that balance compliance (NFPA 921/1033/1321, CJIS) with usability.
  • Design interactive prototypes that model complex flows such as inspection notifications, evidence logging, and AI-assisted report drafting.
  • Work hand-in-hand with engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible, scalable, and consistent with our AWS-native stack (eg React, TypeScript, Tailwind and/or similar).
  • Build and evolve a design system that ensures UI consistency across dashboards, forms, and reporting modules.
  • Document design intent, edge cases, and compliance considerations so developers can implement without ambiguity.
  • Conduct usability reviews and incorporate field feedback from investigators and inspectors to refine workflows.
  • Balance aesthetic clarity with the realities of govtech
  • With your application, submit a screenshot of a dashboard you have designed and how you designed it.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • +3 years of experience in product/UX design for SaaS platforms, ideally with data-heavy or compliance-driven applications.
  • Proficiency in Figma (or equivalent) for flows, prototypes, and system design.
  • Comfort with front-end frameworks (React, TypeScript, Tailwind) and the ability to speak the language of engineers.
  • Experience designing complex dashboards, filtering systems, and multi-step workflows (bonus if in government, legal, or regulated industries).
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills; able to hand off designs to engineers with zero ambiguity.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates both systemic thinking and craftsmanship in execution.

What We Value

  • Pragmatic creativity: pushing for clean, human-friendly workflows while respecting compliance, security, and procurement constraints.
  • Systems thinking: understanding how features interact across cases, inspections, and reports.
  • Iteration and testing: rapid prototyping, field validation, and refinement.
  • Mission alignment: motivated by building tools that directly support public safety professionals who serve their communities.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience designing for government or regulated environments, conducting usability studies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams including researchers and engineers. Comfort with fast iteration cycles and a bias toward practical, accessible, and scalable design solutions. Knowledge of front-end constraints and the ability to discuss feasibility with developers is a plus.

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to design a mission-critical SaaS product that directly serves public safety and investigation professionals.
  • A collaborative, cross-functional environment where design is valued from idea to implementation.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Flexible, remote-friendly work culture focused on outcomes and results.
