Slay is an LGBTQ+ event ticketing marketplace built on the values of inclusion, celebration, and connection. We’re not just another tech platform—we’re a cultural catalyst.

We are culturally native — built by and for queer communities. We’re not trying to “do diversity” through a slide deck. We live it, breathe it, and build with it every single day. Our product is shaped by real queer users with real stories, struggles, and a shared fire to belong.

We’re looking for a Product Designer with sharp systems thinking, full product lifecycle mastery, and a creative soul to lead the design of our next-gen queer events superapp. From zero-to-one journeys to post-launch optimisation, you’ll help architect a digital playground where LGBTQ+ joy, connection, and community take centre stage.

Your Mission & Responsibilities

As our Product Designer, you will lead the end-to-end product design process for Slay’s queer events superapp. Your role is critical in shaping scalable user experiences that resonate emotionally and functionally with our unique community. You will:

  • Own the full product design lifecycle, from early problem discovery and ideation, through prototyping, testing, launch, and ongoing iteration, ensuring design excellence at every stage.
  • Define clear design goals aligned with business objectives, facilitating workshops to transform abstract concepts into actionable product plans.
  • Create and maintain scalable design systems and UX architecture to ensure visual and functional consistency across both web and mobile platforms.
  • Lead user research through interviews, usability studies, and A/B testing, translating data-driven insights into impactful design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and Founders within an agile environment, ensuring precise execution and seamless handoffs.
  • Mentor and support junior designers, fostering a culture of constructive feedback and inclusive, diverse design thinking.

What We Are Looking For

We seek an accomplished Product Designer with over 4 years of professional experience, preferably within fast-scaling startups or mission-driven environments dedicated to social impact. You should have a portfolio demonstrating your comprehensive involvement across the full product lifecycle, showcasing not just polished visuals but strategic decision-making, trade-offs, and measurable impact.

Core skills include strong fundamentals in UX and UI design, with proficiency in designing mobile-first and web platforms. Deep expertise in Figma is required, including advanced features such as libraries, prototyping, and auto layout; familiarity with animation or prototyping tools like Framer, Protopie, or Lottie is a plus. Experience in building and maintaining scalable design systems is essential.

You must be comfortable interpreting and utilizing product analytics tools such as Google Analytics 4, Hotjar, and Mixpanel to validate design hypotheses and iterate accordingly. Additionally, you should be adept at engaging in product strategy discussions, leveraging prioritization frameworks like RICE, MoSCoW, and North Star Metrics.

An understanding of engineering workflows and handoffs is also important, particularly familiarity with React, Tailwind CSS, Storybook, or similar environments to ensure smooth collaboration and implementation of designs.

Above all, a genuine passion for building inclusive, accessible, queer-affirming digital products that uplift diverse voices and experiences is paramount. We value human-centered design balanced with a metrics-driven mindset.

Soft skills we prioritize include systems thinking, creativity, empathy, collaborative spirit, and the courage to challenge norms and advocate for queer community needs within the design process.

Desirable Skills and Experience

Experience working specifically on LGBTQ+ focused platforms or cultural community projects will be highly regarded, as will prior involvement in interactive digital experiences that incorporate gamification, artist engagement, or event ecosystems. Knowledge of accessibility standards and designing for neurodivergent users will add significant value.

Additional proficiency with advanced prototyping and animation tools such as Framer or Protopie is a plus, as is a background or interest in brand identity design or UX writing. Familiarity with cross-platform design systems and component libraries would further enhance your contribution to Slay’s evolving product.

Demonstrated mentoring and leadership experience in design teams, and a commitment to fostering inclusive, equitable design cultures, will help you thrive and grow within our organization.
