Position: Real Estate Accountant (100% Remote)

Our client is looking to hire a highly motivated accounting professional to join a self storage business based out of Canada. This business manages self-storage properties (rent storage units to tenants) and also sells portable self-storage units across the US and Canada to different businesses. The position is considered full-time to start (40 hours a week) and will assist in ensuring the accuracy of the financial books. You will be reporting directly to the owner. Initially, the position will begin as a bookkeeper and transition into a more formal accounting/controller role.

We are looking for candidates who love being around a changing startup/business environment and are always looking for challenges to solve.

Job functions

  • Support forecasting of scheduled revenue, tenant occupancy, and other key metrics at the unit level for use by various stakeholders
  • Categorizing income/expenses on Quickbooks
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of books quarterly to bi-annually
  • Maintain an organized and accurate record of receipts and invoices
  • Track invoices for timely payables and receivables from contractors/vendors for self-storage facilities
  • Trust accounting support (each self storage property is its own entity) and provide monthly reporting via Quickbooks
  • Managing the process of freight accounting/international shipping for retail/wholesale flatpack business unit

Qualifications and requirements

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of bookkeeping experience with US-based businesses
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field is preferred
  • Demonstrable experience in bookkeeping and financial operations is required
  • Experience in Real Estate/Property Management/Trust Accounting is preferred but not required
  • Experience in Banking, Lending and International Shipping is preferred but not required
  • Expert in Google Sheets
  • Familiarity with Accounting software such as Quickbooks is required
  • Experience with Notion
  • Reliable internet/WiFi and excellent audio quality with minimal to zero background noise
  • Proficient english is required
  • Must have a strong work ethic and track record delivering results
  • Must have excellent attention to detail.
  • You must be reliable and show up on time.
