Job Details:

We are seeking a LIMS Software Developer Contractor to contribute to the design, development, and implementation of software solutions. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work with and learn about systems such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) & custom applications.

As part of the Software and Data Engineering team, you will address the needs of scientists, professionals, and engineers in R&D, Manufacturing, and other workflows.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to design, implement, and optimize software solutions focusing on LIMS, ELN, databases, and custom applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and refactor clean, modular, and well-documented codebases using languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, or R, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
  • Build and enhance user interfaces and backend logic to streamline workflows and improve usability for scientists and engineers.
  • Integrate systems and automate data flows between LIMS, ELN, and third-party or in-house platforms via RESTful APIs, services, or other mechanisms.
  • Employ Agile methodologies to manage code cycles, participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and problem-solving.
  • Design and execute unit, integration, and system tests to validate functionality and robustness, assisting with user acceptance testing and troubleshooting.
  • Create technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, user manuals, and code commentaries, to support knowledge transfer and long-term maintenance.
  • Implement version control using Git or similar tools, ensuring code integrity, tracking changes, and supporting collaborative development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies and tools that enhance data management and analysis.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of working experience in Data or IT functions.
  • 3+ years of experience in software development with proficiency in at least two programming languages, such as Python, R, Java, Groovy, JavaScript, REST, or SOAP.
  • 2 years of experience working with scientific data solutions in a biotechnology environment.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) platforms, such as LabVantage, LabWare, STARLIMS, CoreLIMS, Labii LIMS, or E-notebook.
  • Hands-on experience working in cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Familiarity with at least two database design and querying languages, including SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Ability to produce reproducible code with thorough documentation.
  • Proven dedication to maintaining ownership of tasks and completing assignments thoroughly.
  • Strong English communication skills with a stakeholder-oriented approach.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Life Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations and workflows, or prior experience with greenhouse trials.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including creating functions and developing VBA macros.
  • Ability to collaborate with both laboratory staff and IT teams to implement off-the-shelf data management solutions based on user requirements.
  • Experience in preparing software documentation and performing software testing.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as D365 or Salesforce.
  • Proven experience working with AI applications and machine learning (ML) projects, including designing, deploying, or integrating intelligent solutions in laboratory or data-driven environments.
  • Experience with modern data warehouse platforms, such as Databricks or Snowflake, for storing, analyzing, and managing large-scale scientific datasets.
