This is a project funded by the IDB (iadb.org) that looks to promote and facilitate the use of digital tools by Latin American researchers working in life sciences. This project was created as a response to the current pandemic to find opportunities to promote research and development in the region by incorporating digital tools that could facilitate the continuation of work in the academic sector.

This is a short term contract and will be launched as soon as the provider is selected. The details about the final design and features of the website will be defined together with the provider as part of the project.

Job functions

Looking for a web development provider (a single person or a team) that can create a web site to share a catalog of 300+ Bioinformatic tools in an interactive and user friendly format. This page will be directed to both scientists working in the field of life sciences and bioinformatics itself, and therefore will look to provide use cases that serve both types of users effectively. You will be working directly with the team that created the catalog of bioinformatic tools to help them facilitate these information and tools through the web site you would be developing, with the final goal to promote and facilitate the use of digital tools by latin american researchers working in life sciences.

Main tasks:

  1. Help define and draft the web page prototype and features together with the project leads.
  2. Propose a final web design based on the input obtained from the first task.
  3. Execute web development: Setting up the needed infrastructure, including servers, security certificates, web development framework, etc. Develop the design and features defined in the first task.
  4. Present preliminary progress and final deliverables to the project leads.

Qualifications and requirements

Minimum 5 years experience in full stack web development.
Working knowledge of current UI/UX practices and trends to create effective user-oriented experiences.
Proven experience developing similar web projects.

Desirable skills

Experience prototyping and executing the development of a web page.
Experience creating other web pages and integrating the use of different tools and solutions that promote effective UX.
Intermediate backend experience, and advanced frontend skills and experience.

Conditions

A first meeting for presenting the project input and expected outcomes will be conducted to evaluate the candidate. Then the candidates will present a project proposal including the expected timeline, budget, web design and the tools to be used, and a provider will be selected to start the project as soon as possible.
The project is expected to be finalized in a range of 1-3 months, and proposals that can provide shorter timelines will be prioritized.
This is a remote work opportunity and payments will be made upon deliverables.
