Over the past seven years, COPAL has evolved to become a well-known, grassroots power-building, and visionary transnational organization.

This role combines elements of social work, customer service, and resource navigation. As a Virtual Navigator, you will support individuals by listening with empathy, providing clear information, and helping them navigate complex systems and resources.

You must be patient, solution-oriented, and curious—someone who enjoys finding answers, exploring options, and supporting people through challenging moments.

Job functions

1. 55% Community Engagement & Navigation

  • Monitor a centralized phone system and Facebook page Monday-Saturday for a total of 40 hours per week.
  • Engage customers through phone conversation and online basic chatting.
  • Screen people’s needs by following procedures in place.
  • Track services provided, including basic demographic information, in COPAL’s Airtable database.
  • Connect people with resources.
  • Route messages or phone calls to staff.
  • Escalate cases that require additional support.
  • Manage an extensive list of statewide resources.
  • Research and connect with local organizations to expand COPAL’s resource list.

2. 30% Data Collection and Reporting

  • Document inbound and outbound calls in the database.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete record of every call and communication.
  • Document the needs and concerns of community members.
  • Complete surveys with community members as needed.

3. 10% Trainings & Meetings

  • Attend regular training courses as required.
  • Attend regular weekly team meetings and general staff meetings.
  • Read materials that support the enhancement of your skills.
  • Document inbound and outbound calls in the database.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete record of every call and communication.
  • Document the needs and concerns of community members.
  • Complete surveys with community members as needed.

4. (*) Agency Mission Support (5%)

  • Participate in fundraising as appropriate to the role, including phone banking to members/donors.
  • Expectations for all staff include learning and articulating the foundational concepts of COPAL and those of their specific units. This includes the mission, vision, and Jemez principles, COPAL’s political platform; mastering the purpose (mission & vision) of each employee’s unit; and how their work contributes to advancing COPAL’s mission.
  • Learn and become proficient in COPAL’s Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) systems and tech tools as needed, depending on the position’s needs and expectations.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Willingness to learn and perform a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the importance of customer service, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn email marketing platforms and systems.
  • Must be proficient—or able to quickly become proficient—in CRM platforms, phone systems, and essential software tools required for the role.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with diverse groups of people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.Working Conditions and Environment
    • This position requires the contracted person to have a reliable internet provider (200 MB)
    • A dedicated office space to ensure a decent level of privacy, and a reliable computer.
    • Noise cancelling headsets.
    • A computer with 16G of RAM.
    • The ability to instal in monitoring system
