Core Underwriting & Credit Analysis Responsibilities

  • Assess and authorize credit applications across a variety of banking products, ensuring adherence to internal policy, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite.
  • Analyze financial statements, cash flow, collateral, and non-financial factors to determine creditworthiness and risk-adjusted pricing.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize underwriting criteria, scoring models, and decisioning rules in collaboration with risk, product, and data teams.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risk trends, and implement timely mitigations to protect asset quality.
  • Provide transparent, actionable recommendations and documentation for credit decisions to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Participate in the design and execution of automated underwriting workflows to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Engage with internal and external auditors during risk reviews and regulatory examinations as needed.
  • Contribute to governance processes, including policy updates, exception handling, and ongoing training for the underwriting team.

Required Skills, Experience & Traits

We are seeking a proactive Underwriter / Credit Analyst with banking experience and a strong analytical mindset. The ideal candidate combines financial acumen with disciplined risk assessment and a customer-focused approach. You should be comfortable interpreting complex financial data, articulating risk, and making sound lending decisions in a fast-moving environment. A collaborative attitude and the ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams are essential.

Required experience includes: evaluating financial statements and cash flow; experience with commercial, SME, or corporate lending; understanding of collateral evaluation and structuring; familiarity with credit risk frameworks and regulatory guidelines; and proficiency with underwriting systems and data analytics tools. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple files simultaneously are critical. We value adaptability, a growth mindset, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of portfolio quality.

Interest & Additional Qualifications

Desirable but not required: experience with alternative data sources and modern credit analytics, exposure to fintech or digital lending environments, knowledge of financial modeling, and proficiency in SQL, Python, or other data interrogation tools. Prior exposure to risk governance, audit processes, and regulatory reporting is an asset. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex credit concepts to non-specialists, will help you thrive in our collaborative culture.

What We Offer

You’ll join a supportive, high-impact team in a growing fintech environment. We offer a competitive compensation package (discretionary bonus where applicable) and a culture that prioritizes learning and career growth. Our office environment emphasizes collaboration, transparency, and work-life balance, with flexible scheduling to accommodate individual needs. You’ll have access to ongoing training, mentorship, and opportunities to advance within risk, product, and data domains. If you’re ready to contribute to a data-driven underwriting practice and help shape a resilient lending platform, we’d love to hear from you.
