Key Responsibilities

Core: Design and implement new editor features including debugger, notebook support, and Git integration using Rust and our GPUI framework.
Backend: Architect and maintain scalable, high-performance services involved in authentication, billing, telemetry, real-time collaboration, and AI routing. Lead the migration from monolithic architectures to distributed systems ensuring deterministic testing.
AI: Own the end-to-end AI pipeline by evaluating and fine-tuning large language models (LLMs), designing prompting strategies, building data collection and evaluation frameworks, and deploying production AI features.
Collaboration & Quality: Facilitate pair-programming sessions, conduct thorough code reviews, mentor team members, and continuously improve development processes and tooling.
Performance & Reliability: Profile and optimize both desktop and server components to improve latency, memory usage, and fault tolerance.

Requirements

Expert-level Rust development experience with 5+ years building production software.
Strong understanding of systems programming, algorithms, and data structures.
Proven track record with production distributed systems including authentication, billing, telemetry, and real-time collaboration.
Hands-on experience with desktop or cross-platform UI frameworks such as GPUI, Tauri, or egui.
Practical knowledge of large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, including prompt engineering, evaluation, or fine-tuning.
Excellent debugging skills, adherence to clean code principles, and enthusiasm for pair programming.
Conversational English proficiency for effective communication with US-based teams.

Nice to Have

Background experience working with language servers, compilers, or developer tooling.
Database tuning expertise, especially with PostgreSQL or SQLite.
Familiarity with Cloudflare Workers and modern observability technologies like Axiom, Honeycomb, or OpenTelemetry.
Experience building real-time collaborative systems.
Contributions to open-source Rust projects.
